Come hear me perform an intimate, expressive lecture recital of music that spans continents and centuries. This program of music by a diverse group of composers is centered on Spektra by George Walker, the first African-American composer to win the Pulitzer Prize in music. My program weaves a journey through several works that will help illuminate the complex relationship between fostering diversity in classical music on the one hand, and the art of musicianship and interpretation, whose basis oral tradition, on the other.
Program:
Seven Mirrors (excerpts)—Chinary Ung
Threaded Spaces—Yiheng Yvonne Wu
Sonata #30 in E major, Op. 109—Beethoven
---Intermission---
